Attendance at Craven PRS

Craven Pupil Referral Service strives to be a happy, successful school.  As such, every young person, parent and member of staff play their part in making this happen. We aim for an environment which enables and encourages all members of Craven PRS to aspire to great things in order to learn how to be happy, fulfilled and successful in their futures, where ever the next path takes them. We want nothing more than for our students to gain the greatest benefit appropriate for their need from their coaching and life long education.  Therefore, it is vital that they attend regularly and every student should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.

Please look to our policy page to read our Attendance Policy.

If your child is absent from school, we would request that you contact school by telephone or email to explain the absence at the earliest point. The school may contact you to ask for an explanation of absence. If we are unable to contact you, then a letter will be sent home asking you to complete with the reason for absence.

It is important that parents inform the PRS about the reasons for their child’s absences.

Please note that any absence from school without a valid reason is regarded as unauthorised.

On occasions where we believe there may be cause for concern, the Educational Welfare Officer may be called upon to help.

In the case of an emergency closure, a text message will be sent from school to the mobile number you have supplied, therefore please keep your contact details up to date..

The Head Teacher will also contact local radio and the County Council to inform them of any closures.

The Government has published guidance for the full opening of schools. This update (December 2021) can be found using the link below.

Covid Catch Up Plans

We have been fortunate enough to remain open to most pupils for most of the time during national school lockdowns. However, we are aware that most pupils have missed learning due to staff illness, self isolation and organisational issues. Some newly referred pupils missing a signficant amount of learning before joining the PRS.

Staff and pupils are working extremely hard to catch up on any missed learning and we have robust plans in place to make sure this happens.

Year 11 pupils will receive the very best careers guidance and support to prepare them for making choices about post-16 options and apprenticeships.

We are also concerned about the mental health and well-being of our pupils at this difficult time and are making sure that this is factored into all planning. Pupils are getting regular breaks for physical activity and we are making sure that well-being activities are added into the timetable.

We have received a little funding from the government and this is how we are using it to support our current pupils. Check out the Covid catch up funding plan for more information.

Asymptomatic Testing in School

Testing remains important in reducing the risk of transmission of infection within schools. Staff and secondary school pupils should continue to test twice weekly at home, with lateral flow device (LFD) test kits, 3-4 days apart. Testing remains voluntary but is strongly encouraged. There is no need for primary age pupils (those in year 6 and below) to test. Secondary schools should also retain a small asymptomatic testing site (ATS) on-site until further notice so they can offer testing to pupils who are unable to test themselves at home. Schools are strongly encouraged to ask parents and other visitors to take a lateral flow device (LFD) test before entering the school.
