CAREERS MISSION STATEMENT
At Craven PRS we believe that pupils are entitled to receive high quality, personalised Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).
The Careers Education programme aims to enable pupils to choose 14-19 pathways that are right for them and so that they can manage their careers, sustain employability and achieve personal and economic wellbeing throughout their lives. We are working with the Skills Builder Partnership to instil 8 key skills necessary for successful life-long learning: Listening; Speaking; Problem Solving; Creativity; Staying Positive; Aiming High; Leadership & Teamwork. If you would like to know more about Skills Builder, please see lower down the page.
All of our students are introduced to careers, forward planning and looking at the skills, qualifications and qualities they will need for possible future career choices. This is available from KS3 onwards. We aim to provide at least three meaningful opportunities each year for KS3 students to engage with external providers, or employers and to consider their next steps.
The PRS provides a high level of support to ensure that we can meet the needs of all pupils. All members of staff are trained to give general information, advice and guidance to pupils. We work closely with YES Careers Ltd, which is a local company which has operated for 12 years, finding work experience placed with local businesses. Craven PRS also
helps to support pupils with their college taster courses, visiting workplaces, training establishments and colleges.
We welcome the support and involvement of parents and guardians in all aspects of CEIAG.
We are also keen to welcome any businesses/employers to speak to us about offering to share their areas of expertise with our students; Either in school, or on an organised visit.
All students have access to personalised careers guidance programmes as well as information and advice through the PSHCE curriculum and further advice through the specialist teachers and YES Careers. We pride ourselves on the quality of this service and are currently working hard to achieve the CEIAG Quality Mark.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in work experience placements so that they get a taste of 'the world of work'. These are arranged on a flexible basis, dependent on the needs of the pupils, although the day for this if you are in KS4 (Y10 & 11) is each Wednesday.
Should any of our students be interested in looking at an aim towards university at a later date we will encourage this and believe that there should be no barrier to learning. We would be happy to organise speakers and visits to students in Year 10 and 11 for them to experience post 16 opportunities including HE and FE.
Careers impact, on pupils, is mesured through the Gatsby Benchmark, through the Skills Builder Framework and through our NEET data. Currently none of last years pupils are NEET and enjoying their college courses and apprentiships. NEET data is review and published each year.
Here at Craven PRS we meet the Baker Clause policy statement stipulates that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in Years 8 to 13 to inform them about approved technical education qualifications and apprenticeships. Careers guidance and access for education and training providers The Department for Education (DfE) has updated the Statutory guidance for schools and sets out expectations for compliance, which include:
*Schools must act impartially and not show any bias towards any route, be that academic or technical.
*Schools should promote the full range of technical options.
*Schools must open their doors to other education and training providers, providing a range of opportunities for providers to talk to all year 8 - 13 pupils about their offer.
*Pupils should be aware of the benefits of apprenticeships, T Levels and other approved technical education qualifications.
*Schools should make every effort to improve their performance against the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.
*Governing bodies and senior leaders should review their arrangements for provider access and prepare and publish a policy statement on the school website.
