At Craven PRS we believe that pupils are entitled to receive high quality, personalised Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).
The Careers Education programme aims to enable pupils to choose 14-19 pathways that are right for them and so that they can manage their careers, sustain employability and achieve personal and economic wellbeing throughout their lives.
The PRS provides a high level of support to ensure that we can meet the needs of all pupils. All members of staff are trained to give general information, advice and guidance to pupils. Our Safeguarding & Pastoral Officer, Mr. Tom Midgley, provides support for pupils in planning and undertaking work experience and college taster courses, visiting workplaces, training establishments and colleges. As a qualified and experienced Careers Adviser, he is able to offer personalised and intensive CEIAG support to pupils on a daily basis, as part of his Pupil Welfare role.
The Independent Careers Adviser, Mrs. Joanne Meehan, provides specialist careers advice for KS4 pupils and meets with them every term to draw up careers action plans, check on progress and provide further support, as needed. This is to help plan post-16 options and career routes. She formulates action plans with pupils which are carried out with support of school staff.
We welcome the support and involvement of parents and guardians in all aspects of CEIAG.
All students have access to personalised careers guidance programmes as well as information and advice through the PSHCE curriculum and keyworkers. We pride ourselves on the quality of this service and are currently working hard to achieve the CEIAG Quality Mark.
Year 10 and 11 pupils are encouraged to attend local college open days and apprenticeship fairs. Taster mornings can also be arranged for individual pupils.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in work experience placements so that they get a taste of 'the world of work'. These are arranged on a flexible basis, dependent on the needs of the pupils.
Pupils and/or parents seeking advice about careers should contact Mr Midgley in the first instance.
